On Sunday, 21 February 2016, the squadron's two CyberPatriot teams, Team Hercules and Team Vader, competed in the Category Round in the Platinum Tier of the CyberPatriot VIII youth cyber defense competition. This is the highest competition level in the second highest echelon of competition. The teams needed to secure compromised Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Windows 8.1, and Ubuntu images along with a quiz on Cisco networking and a Cisco Packet Tracer exercise.

The teams made history for the squadron, the Ohio Wing, and the Great Lakes Region by having two teams - both from the same squadron - competing in the Platinum Tier, the highest possible tier in the All-Service Division of the competition. The teams unfortunately did not place high enough to make it to the national competition, but scored extremely well. Team Hercules once again came in first place for the All Service Division in Ohio and Team Vader came in third place in Ohio. Team Hercules was comprised of C/1st Lt Michael Gentile (Team Commander), C/2d Lt Emma Kanning, C/2d Lt Ethan Lint, C/SMSgt Jonathan Meals, and C/SSgt Kira Bowman. Team Vader was C/CMSgt Allyson Spay, C/MSgt Amanda Vyse, and C/SSgt Kaitlyn Johnson. Maj Paul Creed III was the Coach for both teams and C/MSgt Sean Beatty was the team advisor.
