Yeager Award

The General Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager Aerospace Education Achievement Award is given to Civil Air Patrol (CAP) members who complete the Aerospace Education Program for Senior Members. It
recognizes those members who have dedicated themselves to furthering their aerospace education and personal development in the CAP.  This award honors Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, a U.S.
Air Force Officer and pioneering test pilot who was the first man to break the sound barrier.

Civil Air Patrol is the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. CAP has a three-fold mission. It includes emergency services, the cadet program, and aerospace education. CAP professional development provides technical skills and leadership training to senior members age 18 and over to support CAP’s mission. The program enables these adults to develop these skills while providing a vital public service to our nation.

As the member progresses through the program, he or she completes five increasingly complex training levels. Each level requires the member to become more involved in CAP activities, master skills in one of 23 technical areas, and develop leadership ability. As he or she completes these levels, the member receives awards, chances for promotion, and selection for more important roles within CAP.

One of the awards is the Yeager Award.  This award follows a self-paced study on the CAP text, Aerospace: The Journey of Flight. All senior members have the responsibility to read and become knowledgeable with the content of this text. Once members are ready, they must pass a written examination to earn the Yeager Award and be eligible to wear the Yeager Ribbon.

Senior Members completing the Yeager Award prior to completing Level II of the Senior Member Professional Development Program receive a Yeager Award Seal affixed to their Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Award Certificate.  Former cadets who have earned the Spaatz Award may be awarded the Yeager Award.
