C-130 Orientation Flight

Nearly 30 squadron members had an opportunity to learn about Air Force aviation close-up with an hour-long flight on a C-130H cargo plane from the 179th Airlift Wing. The C-130 from the Mansfield Lahm ANG Base flew to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in a joint mission between the two installations.

On the flight, the cadets got to see an Air Force aircrew in action as the huge aircraft flew to New York state and back. Members had an opportunity to tour the flight deck, try on a parachute harness, and learn about the forces of flight on a large, multi-engine aircraft. Everyone got on and off the C-130 while the engines were running, a procedure known as ERO - Engines Running On/Offload.
