On Saturday, 5 November 2016 our squadron conducted our annual Gear Hike in Mill Creek Park. The purpose of the hike was to learn various emergency services skills in a hands-on field situation, sharpen existing skills, and build teamwork. This year we changed things up a little: we conducted it as a joint operation with the Knighthawk Squadron-US Naval Sea Cadet Corps. This gave their cadets a chance to see a little of how the Civil Air Patrol operates and to do something a little different. Working as an integrated team, members of both organizations carried a litter and stokes basket loaded up with around 80 pounds of equipment each over a roughly 8 mile route throughout the park. Along the way, there were various stations to teach and practice electronic direction finding, radio communications, signal panels, hasty searches, and patient evacuation. Everyone had a great time and got a good workout. We look forward to doing more activities with them in the future! For more photos, click here.
